Cladding & Dormers

For centuries lead has been used for the exterior cladding of structures and is still used to stunning effect today. Our willingness to work closely with all members of a design project from its inception through to completion enables us to provide the architects aesthetic appeal whilst ensuring compliance with current codes of good building practice as set out by the Lead Sheet Association. Award winning results have been achieved.

Flat & Pitched Roofing

Lead flat and pitched roofs can be seen on countless churches and historic monuments. Being the traditional material for buildings of stature where longevity and practicality are imperative. its application is suitable for replacement of existing roofs and new, high quality construction projects. When correctly designed and installed, such roofs will withstand severe conditions. Our expertise in traditional lead roofing has achieved many outstanding results and employs our skills most frequently.

Entrances & Canopies

Bay windows, dormers and canopies are a common feature of buildings of all types and are often visible at close quarters. No other material has the ability of lead to lend itself so readily to these applications. When worked with skill, a truly beautiful feature is created forming a focal point which exudes style and quality. We take great pride in ensuring our work will encourage the closest scrutiny. After all it is meant to be looked at.

Flashings and Weatherings

There can be relatively few buildings in the British Isles which do not employ lead somewhere in their structure. Flashings and weatherings certainly account for the majority of usage of lead and we have installed many kilometres over the years. Due to their common occurrence they are often neglected. The plumbing or general roofing contractor is awarded this work as a secondary part of their contract. Unfortunately these flashings are usually a primary means of ensuring a weathertight roof, it is therefore a good idea to employ a specialist contractor who understands the importance of careful installation and accurate design. Q. Bytheway has these skills and will ensure that, although a small part of a roof, the lead flashings and weatherings will be treated with the respect they deserve.

Ornamental & Casting

Decorative leadwork takes many forms and its design and use is limited only by the imagination. Our workshop manufactures rainwater pipe, fittings and hoppers to match traditional designs as well as bespoke items. we also manufacture cast lead garden planters, urns and flower tubs, lead roses and embellishments.

A more general activity is the fabrication of weathering slates, chimney aprons and back-gutters etc. Whatever the requirement, if it’s lead – we make it!
